The Light of the World

“You are the light of the world… Let your light shine!”

- Matthew 5:14-16

What is The Light of the World?

It is a 5 week challenge course that will put your faith into action. It will push you to get outside of your comfort zone and shine the light of Christ in new ways!

What is the "Light of the World Challenge Series?"

Overview:

  • Once a week for 5 weeks, you’ll receive a video that gives you a specific and actionable challenge to live out your faith.

  • Gather together with a group of 4-6 comrades each week to discuss the previous challenge and watch the video to see the new challenge.

  • Each challenge is designed to be easy on the time requirement (should take about one hour) and yet stretch and grow you.

  • The 5 challenges are based on the 5 areas of our mission

  • (worship, service, discipleship, evangelism, fellowship).

  • Start date: September 17-21, End date: October 22-26.

How it Works (the details)

  • Step 1: Sign up and get placed into a group.

    • To sign up, click on and fill out the sign up form.

    • On the form, you will be asked to choose from a list of times for your group’s weekly meeting time. You should reasonably expect to make most, if not all, of your group’s meetings.

    • You will be placed in a group with 4-5 others who signed up for the same time slot.

    • If you want to do this with a friend, you can list one friend from SOLC. (There’s a space for this on the sign up form.)

      • You can also invite other people who aren’t part of our church to join you. You can list up to 5 others who aren’t from SOLC. (They still need to sign up.)

  • Step 2: Get together to watch the first challenge video.

    • Each week you will watch the videos together as a group.

    • In each video, Pastor Utecht will explain the biblical foundation and purpose for each challenge, and then issue the challenge and explain anything you need to know to do it.

    • Each video runs 10-15 minutes in length.

  • Step 3: Do the challenge!

    • Over the course of the week, you will complete the challenge.

    • Each challenge is completed by you individually and at a time that works for you.

  • Step 4: Regroup and repeat

    • Reconvene with your group each week at the appointed time, and you will first share how the challenge went for you, hear everyone else’s experience, and encourage each other.

    • Then, you will go back to step 2 and watch the new challenge for the upcoming week.

    • Your group will actually meet a total of 6 times. The first 5 times will be to receive the 5 challenges, and then you’ll meet once more to at the end to recap the whole experience.
